WALK
THE WALK
The
Intrepid Group developed “Walk the Walk,”
a statewide competition to motivate teachers
and administrators to be more active and to
promote healthy lifestyles in Utah elementary
schools, for Educators Mutual Insurance Association
(EMIA). The program, which experienced participation
from 150 schools statewide, offered free pedometers
and activities guides as part of a contest during
April 2006 to discover Utah’s Most Active
Teacher and Most Active Administrator. The winners,
who received $500 for their school for healthy
equipment and activities and a retreat to a
resort in Midway, each walked more than 1 million
steps. “Walk the Walk” also offered
bonus steps to teachers for activities with
students and for developing and implementing
a healthy classroom plan.
The
program had a profound reciprocating effect
on students who followed the example of their
teachers. For EMIA, “Walk the Walk”
provided an important vehicle for communicating
to the organization’s key audiences. In
addition, The Intrepid Group secured more than
$60,000 in media equivalent publicity.
